On Sunday morning, we woke up nice and early! Greg sprung out of bed at 4am because he can never sleep the night before hunting season starts, and then, he woke me up! We got ready to go- he loaded the car, and I packed our camera stuff. We also let Arthur out, and he came with us to fill up on gas. He’s still too little to take hunting. After that, we dropped him off at home, and we went and got Dunkin’ Donuts. I ordered us two iced coffees and two bagels, and we brought Munckins along (did you know they make blueberry ones now?!). Our two hunting buddies for the day met up with us at the gas station next door, too.
We all drove out to our blind, and it was still dark out. Greg and I talked in the car the entire time. When we got to the spot, the guys dropped the boat in the water, and we all loaded in. At this point the sun was breaking through the clouds and turning the sky pink- it was sooo pretty. On our boat ride to our spot there were Asian carp jumping out of the water. I wanted to get a video of them because it was so cool, and they were everywhere, but apparently they can jump so high that they can get into your boat and even hit you! Greg had me sit real close to him in case that happened.
I think the most memorable part of the day was when the guys had to get in the water! During early season, no one has to wear waders because it’s so warm. They set decoys and got our boat situated by jumping in! They also had to do this when we were finished lol. We saw lots of swans and teal (a type of duck) and some geese, but the geese never came into our decoys. Greg did get 4 this morning before work, though! Here’s that picture!
After our hunt, we went home and took a nap together, and then we fished the sunset. It was the perfect sunset with a warm breeze blowing in, and it really felt like there was magic in the air all day. It made me think of “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas.
