Little getaways are so fun and so special, and I think it is so important to get to spend one on one time with the one you love and create memories together. It’s just not always that easy to get away, especially with different work schedules and other commitments. Greg and I love to explore new places together, and we are always doing it within a short time frame. So, I thought I’d share our tips for planning an unforgettable getaway when you don’t have much time!
Our first tip is to choose a pretty area that is not that far of a drive. We usually have 24 hours to make a trip, and we try and limit our drives to 2 hours. We recently went to Iowa. You can see that post here,, and this past weekend we spent the night in downtown Chicago for my birthday! Both drives were about 2 hours, and we think that is the perfect amount of time.
Our next tip is to choose a hotel that has some fun feature that will be relaxing! Hot tubs in the room or a king bed is the best! Research good restaurants that are around, too. Greg is the best at that! He chose the most delicious restaurant that was one block from our hotel this weekend. It was called Southern Cut Barbeque. We walked out of hotel and right into this yummy restaurant that was all decorated for Christmas! Also, if you are around Chicago and looking for good barbeque or just a good restuarant in general, we highly recommend this one! It was so affordable, the food was amazing, and the green beans that we had were so fresh!
Then, it is important to make the car ride fun. As soon as we get in the car, we immediately switch to vacation mode. We dress in cute, comfy clothes, get a snack and drink, and play music, talk, or put on a fun podcast. We love to sing together in the car, too- duets are our favorite! We do this for the car ride home, too!
Finally, enjoy your time together, go with the flow, and fully relax! We always explore the area a little bit and take full advantage of the hotel amenities and perks- like breakfast that is included or the awesome showers that hotels always have!
We hope this hope helps you plan a weekend getaway even if you only have 24 hours like we usually do!
We hope you all have a great weekend!
