Traditions- they just give me that warm, fuzzy feeling. I think that is why the holidays just feel so good and are so much fun. Thanksgiving totally had me thinking about traditions, and how Greg and I want to create more traditions together. As a kid, I always grocery shopped with my mom for Thanksgiving dinner. I can close my eyes and clearly picture Jewel during November to this day. I have amazing memories of setting the table and also eating all of the olives before dinner (I still do this! lol It’s a mini tradition). My Papa and I would always go for a walk after dinner, too.
Having traditions big and small just feels so good. Greg was talking about the little traditions of everyday life, and I think we could all use more of those! He loves to stop and get a hot cocoa before a hunt. He did this as a kid with his Dad and Grandpa. At my house, growing up, we always got a hot chocolate on the first snow, and my mom still group texts us all on the first snow now and says she wishes we could have a hot chocolate together. Greg and I love Sunday breakfast together, and it’s a weekly tradition! We also love to get a coffee or a diet coke before a long drive.
I think that having traditions brings you closer to the ones you love. It’s proven that shared experiences make bonds stronger, and I truly believe that.
The everyday kind of little traditions are just as special and memorable as the big ones. So here is to all traditions that warm our hearts! The next tradition were excited for is going to zoo lights at Lincoln Park Zoo- where we got engaged!
P.S. We have pictures from Thanksgiving last year, too. Greg and I took pictures before dinner, and we’re going to this every year now because I love looking back at them! You can see that post here. It’s also so cute that there are little ducks in both posts- I didn’t even realize that we had ducks in our pictures last year until I looked at them today.
