I had a revelation last week. It happened on Friday. Greg got off work and called me to see if I wanted to go play 9 holes. I was a little tired and had just gotten done coaching volleyball practice so I was also sweaty, but I figured it would be fun to get outside, and I was going to being playing a sport anyway so being a little sweaty would be fine! I had kinda been feeling like just laying low, but then something magical happened on the golf course.
I completely relaxed. Like the relaxing feeling you get after a massage or getting your hair played with or a round of hot yoga. I was relaxed and energized, and it was because my mind was just focused on the game. The golf course was so quiet and it was warm, but the sun was going down and there was this breeze coming in. It was one of those refreshing breezes that happens right before it’s about to rain. I felt so comfortable and happy!
Sometimes I definitely forget to just let my mind relax and so does Greg. During the week, we are both very ambitious and that spills over into the weekend, too. I am very goal orientated and focus on completing tasks, planning lessons, and being creative, but if I don’t take a moment, I definitely can go into overload. When that happens I am a little bit cranky or just completely crash.
During this round of golf, though, something really clicked because I felt so good, and Greg and I were having so much fun together. I felt the happiest and most relaxed that I had been in like 2 weeks! After golf I felt so energized, and that feeling lasted throughout the week. I have been taking some time to relax my mind every day.
For our relationship, it has been really good, too. Greg and I have been more playful with each other, and the crazy thing is we were both more productive this week, I think because relaxing your mind gives you energy!
So my advice is if you are feeling like you can’t stop thinking, do something that makes your mind relax. It was this round of golf that did it for me, but it can also be zoning out watching an episode of the Kardashians/ Grey’s Anatomy (or what your favorite tv show is), just getting outside, taking a bath, or anything you enjoy that you know you can just sink into!
Finally, here are pictures from Greg’s work golf outing that we went to with my brother and dad. We had so much FUN together this day, and we all played really well. Family time also helps both me and Greg relax!
